PlushCare GLP-1 Clinic Review

Updated on December 3, 2025

If you battle constant appetite issues, failed to see significant weight loss with various diet and exercise regimens, and feel like you’ve tried everything else, GLP-1 medications may be your answer.

Fortunately GLP-1s are easier than ever to obtain online, but with so many options in the telehealth space, it is imperative that you choose the right clinic.

Is PlushCare that clinic? It’s served over one million patients, but is it right for YOU?

📋Our Score: 4/5

PlushCare uses licensed doctors and, despite confusing pricing, is actually an affordable option. Bad customer support and the piecemeal pricing system prevent it from being an outstanding clinic.

PlushCare markets itself as an affordable, doctor-led weight-loss option, but the pricing structure can quickly add up. Membership doesn’t include consultations, labs, or prescriptions, which means every appointment and test costs extra.

What Is PlushCare?

what is plushcare

PlushCare is an online clinic that connects you with licensed US doctors to prescribe FDA-approved GLP‑1 weight-loss medications like Ozempic®, Wegovy®, and Mounjaro®. But it functions more like an old school doctor’s office than an online GLP-1 clinic.

Some online GLP-1 clinics don’t even require video conferencing anymore; you just chat with a “doctor,” and a prescription is issued and sent out. It is impossible to know with whom (or with what) you’re actually texting.

PlushCare has gone the opposite direction. It has built a solid network of PEOPLE. How radical.

With over 100 skilled doctors and employees, you can almost always get a prompt appointment.

PlushCare handles anything from sinus infections, rashes, mental health issues, and yes, weight loss.

It offers only name brand FDA-approved GLP-1s, but you get to choose from seven different options in that category—more than any other clinic.

PlushCare also doesn’t charge like other weight-loss clinics. It does have a monthly fee, but it’s considerably lower than most other clinics. The downside is you’ll end up paying for each individual doctor’s appointment if you don’t have insurance.

How Does PlushCare Work?

PlushCare’s process is similar to other telehealth clinics, except it puts much more emphasis on one-on-one care with a certified physician.

Step 1: Questionnaire

PlushCare’s questionnaire is short. It’s just two questions, in fact. You’re given a list and asked to check if you’ve had or have any of the conditions listed.

Then you’re asked height and weight for a BMI calculation.

That’s it.

If your BMI is below PlushCare’s threshold of 30 (27 if you have other underlying conditions) for prescribing GLP-1s, you’re given nutritional and exercise information. If your BMI is above, you’ll move on to the next step.

Step 2: Choose Your Doctor

After you’ve answered what state you’re in, you immediately get a list of doctors with appointments available that day. You can check out the doctor’s profile and read reviews from previous patients to find someone that works for you.

We’ve had great success booking appointments with PlushCare. Looking on a Monday morning, we found the quickest appointment was in just 25 minutes, and there were nine options within an hour.

Step 3: Make a Profile

This is a simple process in which you provide your email, date of birth, biological sex, and phone number, then make a password.

Step 4: Payment Options

You can use insurance with PlushCare, in which case you’ll only pay your copay. If you’re paying by cash, your initial doctor’s appointment will cost you $129.

Regardless of whether you pay with cash or insurance, you have the option at this point of starting a PlushCare membership for $19.99/month.

The membership gives you the ability to book future same-day appointments online or through the mobile app and make prescription renewal requests, as well as accessing free online messaging to your care team.

You can try the membership free of charge for one month. It’s a nice touch. Many online clinics make you sign up for the membership to even make an appointment.

Step 5: Doctor’s Appointment

To prepare for your appointment, PlushCare suggests having on hand the names and dates of any weight-loss drugs or products you’ve previously used, so come prepared.

Your appointment will cover your weight-loss goals in addition to the state of your general health, your past health history, and more.

Appointments typically last 15 minutes or so, and can be conducted over your computer or via video in the PlushCare app.

The doctor will either decide to issue you a GLP-1 prescription on the spot or, in some cases, order blood tests.

Step 6: Lab Work

If your doctor requests blood work, you can use PlushCare’s partner Lab Quest, which has labs throughout the country, for just $15.

If you’d rather go the home test route, which we don’t suggest due to poor accuracy, you can also do that with PlushCare, but it can be quite a bit more expensive.

Step 7: Treatment Plan

After the doctor has analyzed everything, if you are eligible you’ll be issued a prescription for a name-brand GLP-1. Some medicines ship directly to your home and others have to be picked up at your local pharmacy.

Step 8: Ongoing Treatment

With the PlushCare membership, you’re entitled to in-app messaging with your Care Team, but PlushCare doesn’t offer any sort of coaching or mentoring program specifically designed for weight loss.

You can always book another appointment with your doctor, but that will come out of pocket again if you don’t have insurance.

Treatment Options at PlushCare

treatment options at plushcare

PlushCare offers only branded GLP-1s, so you’ll have to look elsewhere for cheaper but potentially less safe compounded GLP-1s.[1]

However, PlushCare offers more branded GLP-1s than any other clinic we’ve tried. So, if you’re looking for a GLP-1 beyond the usual offerings, PlushCare should have it.

  • Tirzepatide (Zepbound® and Mounjaro): weekly vials you load into a syringe yourself or preloaded injection pens

  • Semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic): weekly, preloaded injection pen in various doses

  • Liraglutide (Saxenda® and Victoza®): daily injectable pens

  • Other GLP-1s and weight-loss meds:
    • Trulicity®, a less common GLP-1 (dulaglutide), comes in the form of a pen for once-weekly injections
    • Bydureon BCise® (once-weekly preloaded injection)
    • Rybelsus® (oral method)
    • Contrave® and Xenical® (weight-loss drugs that are not GLP-1s and typically come at a much cheaper price tag)

Other medications: antibiotics, antidepressants, asthma medication, and much, much more

Note: Ozempic, Mounjaro, Victoza, Trulicity, Bydureon, and Rybelsus are FDA approved for type 2 diabetes only and must be prescribed off-label for use as a weight-loss treatment.

PlushCare Pricing: A La Carte

If you don’t have insurance, PlushCare’s prescription prices are in line with the industry averages. It does come with a small monthly membership fee, and the fee does not include consultations or prescriptions.

Initial consultation: $119

Initial blood test: $15

Monthly membership: $19.99/month

Follow-up consultations: $119

Medications without insurance (monthly):

  • Zepbound® vials: $349 for 2.5 mg or $499 for 5–10 mg

  • Zepbound pens: $650

  • Wegovy: $499

  • Saxenda®: $1,752

  • Mounjaro: approx. $1,000

  • Ozempic: approx. $949

PlushCare’s pricing system is certainly more cumbersome than what you’ll get with all-inclusive weight-loss clinics. However, the membership price is so low that even if you have to pay separately for multiple consultations, you could still end up saving money.

How It Compares

Let’s do the math. To keep it simple we’ll imagine someone who uses Wegovy for exactly one year and is not using insurance.

With PlushCare, you’ll pay for your initial consultation and blood test right off the bat, plus another consultation to review the blood test results and get your prescription. That’s $253 to get started.

Say you need two more doctor consultations and one more blood test over the year to adjust your dosage or deal with side effects. That’s another $253. All told, over one year you’ve paid $506 for tests and consultations, plus the $19.99/month. It all averages out to $62/month before medication costs.

That’s a lot of annoying math, but it turns out it is a pretty good subscription price when compared to other clinics.

  • Shed offers a $49.99/month coaching program as well as compounded semaglutide in addition to brand-name Wegovy. If you want to go the compounded route, you can save on medications by paying $199–$299/month, compared to the $499/month for Wegovy through PlushCare, but exercise caution because compounded meds are not FDA approved

  • Sesame Care charges $99 a month for support services and has almost identical prescription prices as PlushCare.

  • WeightWatchers charges $74 for ongoing care, but its customer service receives a lot of complaints and prescription prices are similar to PlushCare.

What’s Included in PlushCare’s Subscription Price?

Not much actually, but that’s why it is so cheap. For $19.99/month, you get access to the app, the ability to make same-day (often same-hour) doctor’s appointments, and online access to the care team, although they can be slow to respond.

Everything else comes out of pocket.

What’s Not Included?

Consultation costs, lab work, and prescriptions are not included. That all comes out of your pockets or the deep pockets of your insurance company.

PlushCare also doesn’t offer any type of coaching or nutritional support programs.

🎯 Who Should Use PlushCare?

Sometimes a clinic can be great overall but not the right clinic for you. Then again, even shoddy clinics can be right for someone.

➡️ PlushCare is great for self-motivated people who know how to exercise and eat nutritiously but still need the help of GLP-1s to get over the top.

The lack of wellness and nutrition coaching makes it suitable for people who don’t want a self-declared lifestyle guru meddling in their affairs.

➡️ If you don’t like a lot of hand-holding, PlushCare might be perfect.

PlushCare has some great doctors who will prescribe the optimal medication for you, but you’ll have to do the rest on your own.

➡️ If you’re not a big fan of sitting next to a snotty, sneezing child in a crowded doctor’s office, PlushCare might also be a great choice.

It offers full-on virtual health care for just about any ailment, so if, for example, you get a sinus infection while you’re on GLP-1s, you can use your PlushCare membership to sign up for an appointment (which will cost $119 without insurance) and be treated from home.

➡️ Bargain hunters should also use PlushCare, which, despite all the add-on fees, often ends up being cheaper than its competitors.

🚫 Who Is PlushCare Not For?

If you want a clinic that is dedicated entirely to weight loss and provides coaching and support in addition to GLP-1 medications, you should look to Shed or another weight-loss specialist. PlushCare offers doctor’s appointments, prescriptions, and little else.

Also, if you don’t like “hidden” fees, you won’t like PlushCare. PlushCare doesn’t actually hide its fees—everything is clearly spelled out on the website—but its subscription doesn’t cover consultations or lab work.

That makes it feel like PlushCare is piling on costs, even when you’re actually paying less in the long run (see the math above). But if you just don’t want to worry about separate costs and just want all-inclusive clinics, you should find another clinic.

PlushCare is also not for the impatient. Although getting doctor’s appointments is incredibly fast, dealing with support in case you have general questions or billing issues can be quite the chore.

Real User Experience With PlushCare

User’s experiences with PlushCare totally depend on the doctor you get, so please read the doctors’ reviews and experience before making your appointment.

It is tempting to just pick the first doctor available, but do a little research first or you could end up with someone like this:

However, those who have good doctors seem pleased overall with their PlushCare experience:

There are also a lot of patient complaints about slow response times from the care teams, but at $19.99/month, you get what you pay for in that regard. In general, if you find a good doctor, you’ll more than likely have a good experience.

Final Verdict

With the right doctor, PlushCare can be a convenient, affordable, supportive GLP-1 provider.

Although its a la carte pricing is annoying, you’ll most likely pay less than you would with other clinics, albeit with less support and no lifestyle coaching.

If you’re self-motivated to make the lifestyle changes required to help you lose weight, but you just need expert advice on which medications will help you meet your goals, PlushCare is an excellent choice.

Find the perfect doctor for you and start your weight-loss journey now.

FAQs

How much does PlushCare cost, and what does that cover?

PlushCare charges a $19.99 monthly subscription, which allows you access to the app and care team as well as facilitating same-day doctor appointments. It does not cover the cost of initial telehealth consultations, lab orders, follow-up appointments, or medications. Medication costs are billed separately through your insurance or pharmacy.

Can I get Ozempic or Wegovy through PlushCare?

Yes, you can get Ozempic and Wegovy through PlushCare. PlushCare only prescribes FDA-approved GLP‑1s like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound, and a few others. All prescriptions are based on medical eligibility determined by lab results and consultation with a board-certified doctor. PlushCare does not offer compounded GLP-1s unless the brand name is commercially unavailable and listed on the FDA shortage list.

Does PlushCare bill insurance for visits or meds?

Yes, PlushCare works with you and your insurance company to determine if your doctor visits are covered. If so, PlushCare will bill insurance directly. If consultations are not covered, they cost $119 out of pocket. Medication billing is handled separately by your pharmacy or insurance plan. Ask your insurance company directly about what medicines they’ll cover.

How often are labs required with PlushCare?

PlushCare requires a blood test before you start your prescription if you’ve not had lab work done within the last three months, and in general labs are recommended every 3–6 months to monitor safety. PlushCare works with Quest Diagnostics centers to complete blood testing. Your doctor may request additional lab work if you have any strong side effects or if you see a lack of results.
