WeightWatchers GLP-1 Clinic Review

Updated on September 7, 2026

When WeightWatchers was born, the Beatles were just becoming a thing. Can a company with so much history truly embrace the future of weight loss?

WeightWatchers is sure trying!

For example, it now offers GLP-1 prescriptions and a full-service companion program that combines its signature Points® system with medications like Ozempic® and Wegovy®.

Does their new system work? More importantly, will it work for YOU?

📋Our Score: 3/5

There are certainly some things to like about WeightWatchers, but they have a ways to go before we consider them a great online weight-loss clinic.

What Is WeightWatchers?

WeightWatchers has been around since 1963. It started out more or less as a support group of friends who wanted to lose weight together. Then it went on to have over a million members and was endorsed by none other than Oprah. Oprah!

But WeightWatchers was slow adapting to newer diets and meds and collapsed under the weight of its hefty $1.5 billion in debt.

Now it’s emerging from bankruptcy with a slimmer, more modern business model. WeightWatchers’ deal with Novo Nordisk to prescribe Wegovy at a great introductory price is a sign that it’s starting a new chapter and embracing new weight-loss methods. Also, because of this deal, we’ve ranked WeightWatchers as the number one place to get Wegovy online.

WeightWatchers hopes to combine its former strengths—community and nutritional guidance—with prescriptions for branded GLP-1s.

How Does WeightWatchers Work?

How does weightwatchers work

WeightWatchers has a pretty similar process to most other online weight-loss clinics, although it asks a few more questions and has a tricky payment plan.

Step 1: Quick Quiz

WeightWatchers starts you off with seven quick questions, starting with your name (easy), calculating your BMI (minimal math required), and then going through any previous attempts at losing weight.

Step 2: Set Up an Account

After those few questions, you have to set up a WeightWatchers account in order to “see your results.” Results of what, exactly, we don’t know at this point, but you just have to provide your last name, plus an email address and password.

Step 3: Answer More Questions

Still no results to speak of just yet. Instead, you have to go through a much more detailed and personal questionnaire. At this point WeightWatchers asks about your mental health history, alcohol consumption, medical history, and more. It even asks for your most recent blood pressure reading. You can answer “I don’t know” if, like me, you don’t remember.

Finally at the end of this portion of the Q&A, you are given results, in the form of how much weight WeightWatchers estimates you could lose if you stick with a GLP-1 program over 68 weeks, typically around 15% of your current weight.

Thinking of trying it yourself? Check out WeightWatchers here and see what kind of number they throw at you.

Step 4: Choose Your Treatment Option

You’re given three choices at this point. The first is “Cash-Pay Wegovy,” the second is “Insurance Covered GLP-1,” and the third is “Decide with your Clinician.” This is a nice touch. Many clinics we research don’t give you options at the start.

The Wegovy option is popular thanks to promotions that WeightWatchers occasionally runs with Novo Nordisk, offering a great introductory rate. If you’re paying out of pocket, you won’t find a better deal for Wegovy.

If you do have insurance that covers GLP-1s, WeightWatchers will help navigate the issue with your insurance company. Obviously that could be worth your time, even if you’re not sure you’re covered or not. Better to figure it out with WeightWatchers’ help than on your own.

“Decide with your Clinician” is probably your best option if you’re completely new to the GLP-1 world and don’t have time to do your own research.

Step 5: Choose Your Membership

No matter which option you choose for treatment, you have to immediately choose a WeightWatchers membership plan, for which you’ll get billed right away and then once a month going forward. You can choose a 12-month plan, 6-month plan, 3-month plan, or month-to-month.

CHOOSE WISELY. If you choose the 12-month plan, which offers the lowest per month price, you are completely committed to a full year of payments, even if you quit the program early.

You can withdraw from the program, but WeightWatchers will not cancel the payments until the term you chose is up. Even then, if you haven’t formally canceled, they’ll keep on taking money out of your account.

Once you’ve chosen (WISELY!), you have to make your first payment at this point, before you’ve had your consultation. This is actually pretty common.

Step 6: Consultation

The next step is your one-on-one consultation with a clinician who specializes in weight loss. You’ll review the answers you’ve already given, as well as your health history, and establish concrete goals for your weight loss.

This can be done in one of two ways: either through video chat or through the WeightWatchers chat portal. Some states require a video conference to issue prescriptions, in which case you’ll have to make an appointment for the consultation.

If you live in one of the states that doesn’t have a video requirement, you can complete the whole consultation via chat whenever you want.

The clinician will help you decide which (if any) GLP-1 is best for you and issue you a prescription. Your medication will be mailed directly to your home.

Step 7: Ongoing Care

WeightWatchers still emphasizes what put it on the map so many years ago and offers a lot of nutritional and fitness guidance.

While that might seem outdated in this new age of weight-loss wonder drugs, nutrition and exercise are still very important factors in whether or not you are able to sustain your weight loss after finishing your GLP-1 prescription.

To this end, WeightWatchers offers tons of recipes, the patented points system, fitness events led by coaches, unlimited 24/7 support with the care team, and private social media groups to offer encouragement.

Treatment Options at WeightWatchers

weightwatchers treatment options

WeightWatchers really pushes Wegovy, a semaglutide, because it has a deal with the manufacturer, but it offers a number of other GLP-1 medications as well.

It should be noted that WeightWatchers does not sell any compounded GLP-1s, so you’ll only get the quality (and price) of FDA-approved name brands.

Semaglutide

  • Wegovy: preloaded pen; self-inject once a week
  • Ozempic: preloaded pen; self-inject once a week
  • Rybelsus: oral tablet; taken daily

Tirzepatide

  • Zepbound®: preloaded pen or vial + syringes; self-inject once a week; vials are cheaper
  • Mounjaro®: pre-loaded pen; self-inject once a week

Dulaglutide

  • Trulicity®: preloaded pen; self-inject once a week

Liraglutide

  • Victoza®: preloaded pen; self-inject daily

Note: Wegovy and Zepbound are the only options here FDA-approved for weight loss. Others (e.g., Ozempic, Mounjaro, Trulicity, Victoza, and Rybelsus) are diabetes drugs and would be prescribed off-label for weight management.

Non-GLP-1 weight-loss meds

WeightWatchers still offers a few non-GLP-1 medicines designed for weight loss, which are actually included with your membership:

  • Metformin: This drug produces modest weight loss (a few kilograms) and is not as effective as GLP-1s for weight management[1]
  • Combination bupropion/naltrexone: not as effective as GLP-1s but may still work for some

Nutrition and exercise support

This is where WeightWatchers really sets itself apart from other online weight-loss clinics. WeightWatchers hasn’t forgotten its roots and still offers a points system to keep track of your calorie intake, plus tons of healthy recipes.

WeightWatchers also offers fitness coaches who host events and offer exercise insights. Very few clinics include help establishing a fitness routine in their membership programs.

WeightWatchers Pricing: Exercise Caution

WeightWatchers charges a monthly prescription that isn’t terribly expensive, but it’s impossible to cancel if you signed up for a long-term contract.

Monthly Membership

To get prescriptions through WeightWatchers, you are required to sign up for a membership. You don’t have to pay it all up front, but you can’t cancel future payments. If you choose the 12 months option, you will pay 12 months, even if you stop using the program.

Duration of contractFirst monthSubsequent months
12 months$25$74
6 months$49$84
3 months$49$99
Month-to-month$49$149

Your monthly membership fees entitles you to 24/7 access to your care team via chat, which includes your doctor, fitness coaches, and a dietitian.

If you are sure you are going to complete a full year of the WeightWatchers program, $74 is a pretty fair deal for a program that offers so much guidance.

If you still have your doubts, however, you may want to start with the month-to-month plan for $49 and after the first month you can either cancel or make a cheaper longer-term commitment.

Prescriptions

WeightWatchers often fills prescriptions directly from the manufacturer so they are usually as cheap as you’ll find if you’re paying out of pocket.

GLP-1Monthly out-of-pocket costs
Wegovy$499
(frequent promotions for a cheaper first month)
Mounjaro$950
Zepbound $1,060 for preloaded pen
$349 for 2.5 mg vial
$499 for 5 mg vial
$499–$599 for 7.5 mg vial
$499–$699 for 10 mg vial
Saxenda$1349
Ozempic$800–$1200
Trulicity$800–$1000
Rybelsus$900
Victoza$1100

How it compares:

  • Shed offers an optional $49.99/month coaching program, so you could save money there, but Shed also offers compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide in addition to brand-name GLP-1s. If you want to go the compounded route, you can save a lot on medications by paying only $199+/month.

  • PlushCare only charges $19.99/month for its membership, but that doesn’t include consultations, which are $119/each. If you’re familiar with GLP-1s and don’t need a lot of support or consultations, PlushCare could offer significant savings.

  • Form Health requires you to be rich or well-insured, but it delivers highly personalized weight-loss programs. It charges $299/month + lab work + medication costs.

WeightWatchers’ membership price is about middle of the pack, depending on which contract you sign, however WeightWatchers offers far more in terms of dietary and exercise regimens, although there are a significant number of complaints about their customer service.

🎯 Who Should Use WeightWatchers?

☑️ If you still believe in old school nutrition and exercise programs

The new, new—they’ve reinvented themselves several times—WeightWatchers combines their fitness coaching and nutrition advice with the power of GLP-1 medications. That’s often a recipe for lasting success.

☑️ WeightWatchers would also be a good fit for you if you thrive in a community.

WeightWatchers was so much of a community it was once SEMI-jokingly referred to as a cult. It’s a little more relaxed now, but there are still group classes and online meet-ups to help provide a support system.

☑️ You also have to be someone who is thinking beyond just your GLP-1 prescription to enjoy the benefits of WeightWatchers.

If you really want to make long-term lifestyle changes, WeightWatchers can help you accomplish your goals with its emphasis on nutrition and exercise.

☑️ If you like the accountability of a long-term contract.

If we haven’t stressed it enough, when you sign up for a long-term contract, that money will come out of your account whether or not you are still using the program. This could be the extra motivation you need to keep going until you reach your weight-loss goals.

🚫 Who Is WeightWatchers Not For?

If you don’t like iron-clad contracts, it might be best if you avoid WeightWatchers or try it out on a month-by-month basis to begin.

The best rates for WeightWatchers membership comes if you sign a yearly contract, but you will not get out of that contract even if you cancel your prescription or stop participating in the program.

Those of you who have looked into compounded GLP-1s and believe the cost benefits outweigh the lack of FDA approval will have to use a different clinic. WeightWatchers does not offer compounded meds.

Finally, if you are looking for a prescription and nothing else, you don’t need to pay the WeightWatchers membership. The membership only adds value if you actively participate in the fitness groups, use the recipes, and engage your care team. If you don’t, you’re wasting money.

Real User Experience With WeightWatchers

In general, WeightWatchers has some pretty terrible reviews, although some of its aggregate scores, like the 1.5/5 on TrustPilot, are also due to its troubled past, before it became a GLP-1 clinic.

The bad reviews that remain relevant are mostly about that payment contract we’ve already warned you about several times.

Too bad Martha can’t go back and time and read our review:

Final Verdict

WeightWatchers just recently emerged from bankruptcy. It’s reinventing themselves once again, this time as a GLP-1 clinic with the old WeightWatchers’ emphasis on healthy eating, community, and exercise.

It sounds like a great combination, but so far, it just hasn’t gotten the recipe right. What it needs is more than a dash of good customer service, better contract policies, and fewer app glitches.

The potential for a clinic that combines GLP-1s with community, nutrition, and exercise is massive. We need fewer pill mills and more holistic weight-loss treatment clinics. WeightWatchers could be one of those clinics.

Give it a try—just be careful of that contract.

FAQs

How much does the WeightWatchers GLP‑1 program cost per month?

If you are prescribed GLP-1s through WeightWatchers, you’ll pay a monthly membership fee of $74–$149 per month, depending on the link of your contract. GLP-1 prescriptions are not included in your membership. Those costs range from $349 for low doses of Zepbound, all the way up to $1,200/month for Ozempic if you’re paying out of pocket.

Which GLP‑1 medications does WeightWatchers prescribe?

WeightWatchers Clinic prescribes a wide range of GLP-1 medications, more than almost any other weight-loss clinic. It no longer offers compounded weight-loss meds, so all GLP-1s are now FDA-approved brands. WeightWatchers offers prescriptions to Wegovy®, Ozempic®, Saxenda®, Victoza®, Trulicity®, Mounjaro®, Rybelsus® and Zepbound®.

Can I stop the WeightWatchers program any time?

No, you can’t simply stop your WeightWatchers program anytime. This is a huge source of complaints about WeightWatchers. You have to carefully consider which plan you choose on sign-up because the only one that allows you to quit whenever you want is the month-to-month plan. All other plans require you to continue making payments until the end of your term, even if you are no longer using the program.

What support is included in the WeightWatchers program besides meds?

As part of your WeightWatchers membership, you get unlimited virtual workshops, dietitian visits, 24/7 app access to your care team, a treasure trove of healthy recipes, access to exercise activities, and Connect community groups. This is all meant to supplement your GLP-1 prescription by instilling the healthy habits that lead to long-term, sustainable weight loss.
