What Is Willow?

Willow is a telehealth clinic that exclusively prescribes compounded semaglutide and compounded tirzepatide. It does not offer name-brand GLP-1 medications. 

That keeps prices to a minimum, and you’re unlikely to find cheaper GLP-1 medications anywhere else, especially since Willow has no hidden fees. Medication, physician guidance, online support, and your telehealth visits are all covered in one low monthly rate. 

Willow makes things fast, simple, and affordable, but bear in mind that you will not be receiving FDA-approved name brands, like Ozempic®, Wegovy®, or Mounjaro®, which, because of strict production oversight, are the safest GLP-1s.

Compounding pharmacies were cleared to produce versions of these brand-name medicines when supplies were short, but now that those shortages are over, the FDA has removed temporary approval for compounded GLP-1s, and they can’t be produced as exact copies of brand-name versions.^[1] 

Patients who cannot use name-brand GLP-1s because of an ingredient allergy or other medical reason can rely on compounding pharmacies but do so at their own risk.

How Does Willow Work?

Willow offers quick, discreet access to compounded GLP-1s for those who qualify.

Step 1: Initial Questionnaire

Willow starts with a quick six-question survey that covers your weight-loss goals, past weight-loss attempts, and familiarity with GLP-1 medications. If you’re not familiar, you are offered a free e-book about how GLP-1s work. 

Step 2: Create an Account

Quickly create an account by providing your name, email, state of residence, birth date, and phone number.

Beyond your personal data, you must also disclose if you’ve taken GLP-1s before and if you have diabetes. 

Step 3: Virtual Doctor Visit

Before you can set up your telehealth doctor’s appointment, Willow continues with some medical history questions, asking if you have high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, or other medical conditions. 

You’re also asked about any medications you take regularly and given a chance to directly message the Willow medical team with anything you think might be relevant. That might seem like a small detail, but many telehealth clinics don’t give you the space to express any additional concerns you may have.

Step 4: Treatment Options

The treatment options at Willow are based on your health history. 

The first option is semaglutide, and you can choose from a dissolvable tablet or injectable form. 

Once you’ve made your choice between those two, you’re given a third “premium option” of compounded tirzepatide for $100 more per month. 

You also have the option of choosing ondansetron for $30 extra to help prevent nausea and other possible side effects. 

You will be able to change your choices later, but if you feel overwhelmed by making your treatment choice so early in the process, you can choose to speak to your Willow physician before signing up for anything.

Step 5: Identification

For a doctor to write you a prescription, you have to confirm your identity, but this is as easy as sending a photo of your driver’s license or other ID and a photo of your face. 

Step 6: Prescription

At this point, a doctor will review all the information you’ve presented, schedule an online appointment if needed, and send your prescription to a pharmacy. Willow states that your medication typically arrives within five business days.

Step 7: Ongoing Care

Going forward, you’ll have continual access to Willow’s customer support, free follow-up appointments with your doctor, and 24/7 access to a doctor chat room through the app. 

The first follow-up typically takes place around the fourth month of treatment, although you can schedule one earlier if you are experiencing side effects or need further guidance.

Willow Pricing: All-inclusive

Willow covers everything in its monthly price, including the medication itself.

Whether you choose compounded tirzepatide or semaglutide, the price you see above covers all your costs. That includes medicine, support, follow-up consultations, and shipping.

Willow is one of the few telehealth weight-loss clinics that can truly say they have no hidden costs. Most others charge a membership fee, which covers all the support, but does not cover the actual medicine, or they make you pay extra for your consultation or charge extra for ongoing care. 

Willow makes it beyond easy. 

How It Compares

Willow is cheaper than most GLP-1 clinics but provides little support and doesn’t help with overall lifestyle changes that are a big part of the long-term weight loss process. 

• Shed also offers compounded semaglutide for a much lower introductory price, starting at $199/month before reaching $299 for higher doses. Shed also offers branded GLP-1s like Wegovy. Its coaching program, which provides more comprehensive support than what Willow offers, runs an extra $49.99/month. 

• Sesame Care charges $99 a month for support services but only offers name-brand GLP-1s like Mounjaro, which costs $399–$599/month if you don’t have insurance. 

• Onlinesemaglutide.org has the closest all-inclusive pricing to Willow. It also offers compounded semaglutide, charging $20 less than Willow per month for injections but $76/month more for oral compounded semaglutide. Compounded tirzepatide is more expensive at Onlinesemaglutide.org as well, $450/month. 

We love the all-inclusive pricing of Willow; however, you also have to look at what you’re paying for. For example, Shed may charge extra for its coaching, but it is significantly more hands-on than Willow and has a much stronger focus on long-term weight management. 

Many other clinics don’t come close to the cheap prices offered by Willow, but they offer FDA-approved name-brand GLP-1s, not compounded GLP-1s.

➡️ Willow does not accept insurance, so all costs are out of pocket, but if you’ve been putting money into an HSA or FSA, you can use those funds.

Treatment Options at Willow

Willow only offers compounded GLP-1s. You will not find any name brands such as Wegovy, Zepbound, or Ozempic. 

Compounded GLP-1s have the same active ingredients and same effects as the name brands and can be just as effective. However, they are not individually FDA approved, so they don’t face the same quality controls.^[2]

Compounded Semaglutide

Willow offers its compounded semaglutide in two different forms. 

• Injections: These are the most common form of GLP-1 treatment, and you self-administer them at home weekly or twice weekly. 

• Tablets: If you don’t like the idea of jabbing yourself, you can also choose semaglutide in the form of a tablet that dissolves under your tongue and is taken daily. 

Compounded Tirzepatide

You can also order compounded tirzepatide through Willow, but it only comes in injection form. 

Tirzepatide is a GLP-1 and GIP agonist that mimics two hormones in your body responsible for regulating appetite and the release of insulin. It’s considered more effective than typical GLP-1 agonists.^[3]

Add-on: Ondansetron

Ondansetron is a serotonin antagonist that prevents nausea and vomiting by blocking serotonin receptors in the gut and brain. It can be a helpful add-on medication for people who experience nausea from GLP-1 drugs. Many people add ondansetron later, once they’ve determined how their body reacts to GLP-1s.

➡️ Willow is a good choice for bargain hunters who are willing to accept a lower level of service and despise hidden prices, since Willow offers no surprises when it comes to billing. 

If that’s you, you won’t find a cheaper or more efficient clinic to get GLP-1s than with Willow.

➡️ Willow is also best for patients who cannot use brand-name GLP-1 medications for medical reasons, such as an allergy to ingredients in the brand-name versions.

Compounded GLP-1s are not approved by the FDA and cannot be copied exactly by compounding pharmacies. This is why they’re a good option for those who can’t have the exact cocktail of ingredients.

It offers daily semaglutide tablets, so you can avoid the injections that come with the name-brand GLP-1s.  

🚫 Who Is Willow Not For?

Willow is not for those who want a name-brand, FDA-approved GLP-1 like Ozempic. It doesn’t offer them. That means going with compounded GLP-1s, which are not as tightly controlled and are actually being cracked down on, not just by the FDA but also by the pharmaceutical companies whose products they’re meant to imitate. 

Willow also doesn’t accept insurance, so while it offers a really low price, it will come entirely out of your pocket or your HSA/FSA account. If you have a policy that covers GLP-1s, by all means use it and get a more reliable name-brand medication. 

If you’re new to GLP-1s, we’d also suggest you go to a clinic that offers a little more guidance. Some Willow customers are prescribed medicines without even having an online chat with a doctor. 

While that certainly helps make the process efficient, if you have concerns or doubts, you might not be able to express them to a doctor in person. Support can also be difficult to reach and may take a long time to answer questions that require a timely response, for example, when you’re supposed to take your next dose tomorrow but still haven’t received your prescription. 

Willow is also unavailable in 18 states, so make sure you check local availability before you take the time to complete the opening questionnaire.

Final Verdict

Willow offers fast, cheap access to GLP-1 medications that could help you lose a lot of weight. If that’s all you want, Willow could very well work for you. 

But to us, “fast” and “cheap” are not our highest priorities when it comes to powerful medications. We prefer “thorough” and “effective.”

There are plenty of GLP-1 providers out there that are far more responsive to patient’s needs. They offer lifestyle guidance, far more available and knowledgeable support, and more transparency when it comes to the source of their compounded meds.

They may come at a premium price, but your health is worth it.

How soon can I expect results with Willow?

In general, you can expect to see weight loss results after 2–4 weeks, with noticeable changes within 2–3 months. Full effects often appear around six months, when dose stabilizes and lifestyle habits improve. There are a lot of variables, of course, one being which compounded GLP-1 you choose. If you choose tirzepatide, you may see better results faster. 

Are Willow’s medications FDA approved?

No, Willow’s medications are not FDA-approved. Willow uses compounded versions of semaglutide and tirzepatide, rather than FDA-approved name brands like Wegovy, Ozempic, or Mounjaro. Compounded GLP-1s are cheaper and can be just as effective, but compounding pharmacies are not subject to the same regulatory oversight and quality controls as the manufacturers of FDA‑approved brand products.

What if I experience side effects with Willow?

With Willow, if you experience any side effects, your plan includes unlimited messaging with your doctor and Willow support staff who can quickly come to your aid. They will guide you through common side effects like nausea or constipation by managing your dosage, suggesting diet modifications, or prescribing anti-nausea medications. For more severe side effects, they may do blood tests or terminate treatment. 

Does Willow accept insurance or FSA/HSA?
