Recipes come from China, Mexico, Italy and North Africa. An excellent discussion that will help students broaden their perspectives. AUDIENCE: Elementary Middle School Food Service FORMAT: Reproducible handouts Go Girls: Giving Our Girls Inspiration and Resources for Lasting Self-esteem 1999 Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention, Inc. developed the GO GIRLS! curriculum as a prevention tool to be applied in various high school settings. The curriculum is based on principles of prevention indicating that "media literacy," which includes activism and advocacy, is an effective way to empower students with tools necessary to successfully avoid unhealthy behaviors and to help change our society in ways that will benefit adolescents. GO GIRLS! uses these principles to help high school girls avoid and challenge societal pressure which too often result in negative body image, low self-esteem and eating disorders. AUDIENCE: High School FORMAT: Curriculum The History of American Cuisine 1999 This Learning Zone Express video explores the concept of American cuisine and how it came to be much broader than the immediate thought of hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza and pop. This video looks at the rich heritage, many ethnic cultures and distinctive qualities that typify the food we eat. Starting with the simple cooking of the early settlers and their use of Native American foodstuffs, to regional dishes influenced by the bounty of the New World.
