Description

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain why ethnic and racial data is collected and how the data is used in the WIC Program.
  • Provide WIC applicants/participants with the opportunity to identify ethnicity and all applicable racial categories.

Description

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the statewide expansion plan for the North Carolina WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program.
  • Identify steps to implement or enhance a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program in their agency.

Required for Local WIC Directors; other WIC and Local Agency staff are encouraged to participate.

 The NC Lactation Educator Training Program

Description

This course focuses on skills needed for providing basic breastfeeding management and support - including prenatal and postpartum counseling and management of common concerns and clinical problems. The training includes five days of didactic instruction, two days of clinical rotations in hospital and public health settings, and an independent study assignment.

  • 2010 Spring Course – March 3–5 and June 3–4, 2010 (plus 2 clinical days to be scheduled)
  • 2010 Fall Course – September 8–10 and December 16–17, 2010 (plus 2 clinical days to be scheduled)
  • Classroom instruction will be conducted in the Northwest AHEC Reynolda Business Center

WIC Basic Training

Description

An introductory course for new staff. It is best taken after at least three months of employment with the WIC Program, although all staff employed less than fifteen months may enroll. The course agenda is organized to allow for practice sessions most relevant to staff’s responsibilities.
