NET Lending Library 2006 Resource Catalog

Catalog | Lending Policies  | Request Materials | NET Library Overview

The NET Lending Library 2006 Resource Catalog lists materials from the NET library. We have expanded our catalog to include many new topics: food allergy, cardiovascular disease, gestational diabetes, eating disorders, and childhood overweight. Many resources are appropriate for more than one audience and are cross-referenced. For each resource listed, you'll find a description about  its format, topic, intended audience, and users.  The catalog covers the following five areas:

Child Care (Pre K): Materials that can be used to teach healthful eating and nutrition to toddlers and young children in child care settings and WIC offices, as well as materials that can be used to train child care providers.
Elementary School (K - 6): Materials that can be used by teachers or child nutrition staff to teach healthful eating and nutrition to elementary students.
Middle School/High School (7 - 12): Materials that can be used by teachers or child nutrition staff to teach healthful eating and nutrition to middle and high school students, as well as materials that can be used by students for class projects.
General Food and Nutrition: Materials cover topics such as food service, special needs, eating disorders, ethnic food preparation, breastfeeding and general nutrition references.
Adult Day Care: Materials cover such topics as general nutrition, diabetes, osteoporosis, exercise and aging, special nutrition problems of the elderly and tips on shopping and cooking for one.

This catalog is in PDF format. You can print or view the  PDF files just like the original paper copies. In order to view or print the file, it is necessary to have the FREE Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If you don't have Acrobat Reader on your computer, you can download the Reader from Adobe's Website. Be sure to bookmark this page to return once your Adobe Reader is installed.

Some Tips to Efficiently Use your Adobe Reader

How to save PDFs to your computer:

Adobe Reader will work more efficiently, for example searches will complete faster, if you first download PDFs directly to your computer.

In Internet Explorer:

  1. Right-click on the link to the PDF file.
  2. Select "Save Target As" from the menu.
  3. "Save As" dialog box will open. Navigate to the directory where you would like to store the file, use the assigned filename or give the file a custom name, and click "Save".
  4. "Save As" dialog should automatically close. File will begin downloading to the directory you specified. You can monitor download status via the "File Download" dialog box.
  5. When the status of the "File Download" dialog changes to "Download Complete", click "Open" if you want to view the PDF file immediately.

Accessing the PDF directly from your hard drive will save you time when printing or conducting a search.

How to use the table of contents feature in Adobe Reader:

Once the Adobe Reader has been installed on your computer, click NET Lending Library 2006 Resource Catalog to display the PDF catalog.  The catalog displays the cover of the catalog on the right pane of your Adobe Reader with a table of contents or TOC on the left pane.  You'll notice that the table of contents is organized by alphabet; click the appropriate letter to display lending resources that begin with that letter.  Say, for example that you want to search all resources that might pertain to "obesity", simply click Available Materials O to display the resources that begin with the letter O.

How to use the search feature in Adobe Reader:

  1. Click found in the menu bar. A dialog box is prompted.
  2. Type in the topic in the Find What: field. If needed, you can select the appropriate criteria, in most cases this won't be necessary.
  3. Click Find. The Adobe Reader now searches the entire document for the first occurrence of the word obesity.
  4. To continue to search the entire document for more resources within that topic, click Find Again.  Adobe Reader searches for the next instance.  You can continue this search until you have gone through the entire document.
  5. Adobe Reader displays a dialog box when it has reached the end of the document.
  6. Click OK if you want to begin your search from the beginning or click Cancel to complete the search.
